Sky watches as Bloom croons nonsense to the kitten that's curled up in her lap. She's sitting in a sunbeam, smiling down as she strokes its ears, and as happy as he is that she's happy, he knows their time here at the shelter is limited. He's pretty sure he knows the question that's coming; what he doesn't know is how to answer it, because he can see how good this is for her, and he can already picture the kitten wreaking havoc in the Winx suite and wrapping her roommates around its nonexistent fingers, but at the same time …
She's back, he reminds himself, even as part of him still wonders for how long. He doesn't want to think about the possibility of losing her again, but there are still so many things they don't know, so many questions the Realm of Darkness and the Dragon Flame have raised that it's impossible to be sure of anything. He loves her, but he's never going to be able to forget the nights he woke up and reached for her, only to find she wasn't there.
“Sky.”
The sound of his name brings him back to the present. Bloom's looking at him with a brilliant smile on her face, the kitten tucked up against her chest and purring so loudly he can hear it from where he stands. He thinks it might be in love with her too … and he can't really blame it.
“Can we take it home?”
She's here. Not everyone goes away forever. Trust in the moment. The words in his head sound an awful lot like Silva.
A little black paw bats at his finger as he reaches down to pet it, and Sky sighs. As if he could tell her no.
